A Conference to Examine the 60 Year History of the Chinese Revolution Features Deirdre Griswold, Editor of Workers World Newspaper in New York City

Come to a one day discussion on the history of the Chinese Socialist Revolution and the nature of the Chinese state and economy today. Special guest speaker will be Deirdre Griswold, who is the editor of Workers World Newspaper published in New York city.

Griswold is a lifelong revolutionary who has witnessed and studied the various stages of the Chinese revolution and its impact on the world struggle for socialism. She has written extensively on China, Korea, Indonesia, Vietnam and revolutionary developments throughout Asia.

Other speakers include David Sole, former President of UAW Local 2334. Sole has been an activist in the anti-war and anti-imperialist movements since the 1960s. Also Abayomi Azikiwe, the editor of the Pan-African News Wire, who has been an organizer in the anti-war, anti-imperialist and pan-african movements for the last three decades.

The Schedule of Events:

10:00-11:00am---Registration and light breakfast

11:00am---12:00pm
China before the 1949 Revolution, presentation by David Sole.

12:00--1:00pm
The Chinese Revolution and the struggle against underdevelopment; the role of women in the revolution; the ideological struggle with the USSR; the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution; and the suppression of the Left, presentation by Deirdre Griswold.

1:00-2:00pm--Lunch served in the hall

2:00-3:00pm
China and the struggle of oppressed nations for self-determination, national liberation and socialism, presentation by Abayomi Azikiwe.

3:00-4:00pm
The class character of the Chinese state and economy--which will include a review of the events in Tianamen Square in 1989; U.S.-China Relations; The Chinese economy and the world capitalist crisis and the question of Tibet and recent ethnic strife, presentation by Deirdre Griswold.
