Obama must be 'impeached' over Libya war

A bipartisan group of U.S. lawmakers has filed a lawsuit against U.S. President Barack Obama for taking military action in war-plagued Libya without the approval of Congress.

Now, calls have been raised in Washington to impeach President Obama for violating the War Powers Act, which requires congressional support for deploying U.S. forces overseas.

In an interview with Press TV's U.S. Desk on Thursday, John V. Walsh, Member of the Green Rainbow Party of MA, said, "Congress should declare the war".

He stressed that the case of Libya is even worse than the Iraq war for then-president George W. Bush deceived Congress about the basis of the war, citing weapons of mass destructions, but President Obama went ahead and bombed Libya and "did not even bother to lie to Congress".

Walsh said that Obama "should be impeached" and there have been rumblings in congress about Obama's impeachment for violating the "constitution and the self-governance of Congress".

However, the White House claims that the president does not need congressional authority to act in Libya as U.S. forces are playing a supporting role.
